After winning the 2011 Grammy for Best New Artist of the Year, Ms Esperanza Spalding returns to Portland to bless her past instructors, Greg McKelvey and Thara Memory.  The fundraisers were both initiatives to raise money for youth focused Jazz programs and Ms Spalding came through for her city!

True Shine got the opportunity to catch up with Ms Spalding... OP1's Journey Through Time... from Snoop Dogg(West) to Rakim(East)

Sitting in the studio with such legends as Snoop Dogg is one of many things that rapper OP1 has experienced over this last year.  In the same year, to do a song with your #1 inspiration the Legendary Rakim, Vibe and do a remix with Lauryn Hill, create a song with Killah Priest of Wu-Tang in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, Do a video with Teairra Mari, create a song with Jon B in his studio, lounge with Ginuwine at the video set,  well, these are a few things that have happened over the past 6 months, but managing and watching the rise of 9 year old son rapper Da Future, including a timely meeting with Stephen Marley, is perhaps the most rewarding for the young rapper people know as OP1, sometimes referred to as Orion or OP, which stands for One People.  We can anticipate a few single releases this summer from the young rapper, no telling what will come out and when but keep your eyes locked..

Conscious Posse out of Portland

With a collective of 'conscious' rappers out of Portland, it is likely that a positive brand of Hip-Hop will be the prevailing niche to represent the internationally recognized 'Rose City'.  With acts such as Luck-One, Madgesdiq, C3, OP1 and Life Savaz, to name a few, Portland is aiming to be a true Hip-Hop haven.

On the rise, OP1 and C3 have entered into a collaborative effort setting it off with a song involving Lauryn Hill, huh? come again.. Yes, grammy winning Soul/Hip-Hop legend Lauryn Hill is on their latest project.
OP1 got some more surprises as well.  "The movement to put  Portland on the map cannot be born of self-love but must be for a higher cause..." says Rapper OP1.  "Many people in this great city have tried and failed and the key lies in the purpose, the intention and the larger plan... until we unite in the name of a higher cause, the struggle for the crown is a fabricated fantasy born of watching too much television.  Lets build up a movement that will carry our talent into the next galaxy..."

Rapper OP1 and R&B sensation Teairra Mari are set to release their timely collaboration summer 2011

Teairra Mari, formerly known as the the Princess of the ROC was signed to Jay-Z.  Marí worked with Jay-Z in his first collaboration project since becoming president of Def Jam Records, to create "Make Her Feel Good" along with producer Sean Garrett, the lead single from her debut album on Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam that reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 on the R&B charts. It was heavily played on BET. Teairra's second single "No Daddy" had a video that led to commercial success on MTV. 

Now Teairra is making her sophomore effort under the likes of Warner Bros and Fo Reel Ent c/o Cudda Love.  With her highly anticipated album, including such features as Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Souljah Boy, Flo Rida and more, set to release this summer, it is now been officially announced that Teairra Mari's collaborated with Rapper OP1 and we can expect a video from the two artists to be released this summer.  OP1, recently appeared in a video cameo with R&B star Ginuwine and was seen in a video appearance with legendary MC Rakim aka The God MC.  What's next for OP1?
